Camera, Tablet, Cloud, Done! My Fujifilm Workflow

Over the years my photo life, gear, and process has simplified. I now have my Fujifilm cameras and lenses and, for processing and publishing, a tablet and the cloud. Basically I've substituted a desktop/laptop plus Lightroom and Photoshop for an Android tablet with Google Photos, Snapseed, and ocassionally Polarr.

Is this all I really need?

My new tablet-based workflow is simplified and highly portable. Although I am aware of the advantages of shooting RAW, I am always impressed with the latitute afforded with jpegs and pleased with the results.

1) I use the Fujifilm Remote App to wirelessly browse, select, and copy images from the camera to the tablet.


2) Switching to Google Photos, I browse Device Folders > Photo Receiver


3) I choose the image I want to Edit in Snapseed

At first glance this is a terrible image. I purposely expose for the sky as it is easier to lift shadows than it is to recover highlights....at least until I invest in a quality graduated ND filter.

4) Snapseed is my editor of choice even if it was not directly selectable from Google Photos. In Snapseed I typically hit the Tune Image, Details, Crop, and Rotate tools. If I am working on photos from the same day and time, I may copy a set of edits and paste them to the next image in the series, then tweak to taste. Typically I spend under a minute, to as much as three minutes, editing an image.


5) Some images I may further edit in Polarr where I can use the Graduated Fill and Noise Reduction tools.


6) I have Google Photos configured to automatically sync images from the local Snapseed folder to Google Photos cloud storage. From there it is a simple matter to publish the finished image to any social media or photo sharing service.


So there it is, my simple, minimal, and (hopefully) effective camera to tablet to published image, workflow.
